The Ultimate Austin Bar Crawl Guide

6th Street, Rainey Street & East Austin — done right, with a party bus

Austin has three distinct nightlife districts, each with its own vibe. The problem? They're spread out, parking is a nightmare, and Uber surge pricing after midnight will ruin your budget. A party bus solves all three problems at once — and turns the ride itself into part of the night.

6th Street: The Classic

Dirty 6th (East 6th Street between Congress and I-35) is Austin's most iconic bar strip. Think live music spilling out of every door, packed sidewalks, and a chaotic-fun energy that's uniquely Austin. Best bars: Barbarella, Elysium, Coyote Ugly, and The Blind Pig Pub. Pro tip: arrive before 10 PM to skip the worst lines.

Pro tip:Park your party bus on Red River — it's the closest legal drop zone to 6th Street.

Rainey Street: The Upgrade

Rainey Street is Austin's upscale bar district — converted bungalows turned into bars and restaurants, with a more laid-back vibe than 6th. Best spots: Banger's Sausage House, Lustre Pearl, Craft Pride, and Handlebar. The outdoor patios are legendary. Rainey is about 1.5 miles from 6th Street — perfect for a mid-crawl bus move.

Pro tip:Rainey Street gets packed after 11 PM. Hit it first, then move to 6th.

East Austin: The Cool Kids

East Austin (East 6th and the surrounding streets) is where Austin's creative crowd goes. Bars like Whisler's, The White Horse, Nickel City, and Lazarus Brewing Co. define the scene. It's more neighborhood bar than nightclub — great for groups who want good drinks without the chaos of Dirty 6th.

Pro tip:East Austin bars tend to close earlier. Make it your second stop, not your last.

The Party Bus Advantage

With a Red Star party bus, your group travels together between all three districts — no splitting up, no waiting for Ubers, no one getting lost. BYOB means you're drinking on the bus between stops, which cuts your bar tab significantly. Our 14–24 passenger buses handle groups of all sizes.

Pro tip:Book a 4-hour minimum for a proper 3-district crawl. Most groups do 6th → East Austin → Rainey.
